ms word 2003 post xp sp2 issue

i’ve been having problems with ms word 2003 ever since i installed sp2 on my xp pro desktop.  every once in a while when i start word – either by double-clicking on a word doc, or just starting word – it freezes up.  a search of microsoft’s support site turned up nothing.  it’s really starting to get on my nerves.
